UESHIBA MORIHEI: The founder of AIKIDO. Ueshiba Morihei (1883-1969) was a Japanese master of JUJUTSU and KENDO who wanted to create a martial art that would bring students more closely into touch with their KI, or vital energy. He founded a DOJO to teach his system in 1931. The form received the name AIKIDO in 1938. (See also Aikido article).
